MacBook Air M2 (2023) Screen Replacement Guide Step by Step

1. Shut down and prepare Shut down your MacBook. Unplug all cables and power sources. Place the MacBook on a clean, soft surface (display side down).

2. Remove the screws from the bottom case. Use a P5 Pentalobe screwdriver to remove the six screws from the bottom case. Note: Two screws near the hinge are longer: keep track of the length of the screws.

3. Open the bottom case. Gently pry up the bottom case using a plastic prying tool. Disconnect the battery to avoid short circuits: locate the battery connector near the trackpad. Use a spudger to gently disconnect it.

4. Remove the display assembly. Locate the display cable connectors (near the hinge area). Use a spudger to disconnect: Display flex cable Touch ID cable (if applicable) Camera cable (if applicable) Remove the hinge screws (Y000 Phillips screwdriver) securing the display. Lift the display assembly from the base.

5. Remove the broken screen. Lay the screen face down on a microfiber cloth. Remove the metal brackets around the screen (if applicable). Use a heat gun/hair dryer to soften the adhesive around the edges (if the screen is stuck). Carefully lift the screen using a suction cup handle. Disconnect all remaining cables (backlight, touch sensor, etc.).

6. Install the new display Connect the cables from the new display (align carefully). Secure the screen with adhesive or screws (depending on replacement model). Replace the metal brackets if they were removed.

7. Reassemble the MacBook. Reconnect the display cables to the motherboard. Replace the display hinges and tighten the screws. Reconnect the battery. Put the bottom case back in place and screw it in (don’t forget the longer screws near the hinge).

8. Test the new display’s power on the MacBook and check: Touch ID screen brightness and colors (if applicable) Webcam and microphone functionality
